PHOENIX - Phoenix Police are investigating an arson fire that took place overnight Monday at the United Truck and Equipment Company in south Phoenix.
About 1 a.m. Monday, an officer doing patrols noticed smoke coming from the business. Firefighters were able to knock out the fire before it spread to adjacent buildings.
The investigation found that the suspect used a welding torch to cut a hole in the building, when the insulation inside the walls caught fire.
The suspect forced entry into the property by knocking down the rear gate.
Due to water and smoke damage, it's not clear if anything was taken from the building, but a blue 1993 Chevy pickup truck was missing.
The Phoenix Fire Arson team is investigating. The building had video surveillance equipment, but it may have been damaged by the fire.
