New Editor to Resume Publication of Hopi Newspaper

KYKOTSMOVI, Ariz. (AP) -- A tribal newspaper that has been out of publication for years soon will resume operation.

The Hopi Tribe announced Thursday that it has hired a managing editor for the Tutuveni.

Mihio Manus is expected to start his new job sometime next month.

Manus currently is the managing editor for the Gila River Indian News and has worked for other publications, including the Arizona Daily Sun.

The Hopi Tribal Council pulled funding for the newspaper partly because of disagreements over its content -- but later re-established funding. The tribe has spent the past year looking for an editor.

Hopi Chairman LeRoy Shingoitewa says he's excited to have an experienced editor and looks forward to working closely with the staff.

A re-opening celebration is planned for late February.
