AVONDALE - An Avondale company is playing a big part in the Gulf oil spill cleanup. Field Lining Systems makes garbage bags for the earth -- liners for landfills, retainment ponds, and water reservoirs.
But they are taking their flexible PVC-like material, cutting it into 100-foot strips, and use it to construct a boom that will corral the oil on the water's surface.
A styrofoam-like material will be stuffed inside the boom to soak up the oil.

Ron Gutierrez from Field Lining Systems says they have an open-ended contract and the job could go on for months.
The booms will be sent to the southeast. They've completed about 13,000 feet in the last week, and the order was for 200,000 feet.
