TEMPE, Ariz. - Two men who were just drafted to play for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have been arrested for assault in Tempe, Ariz.
Tempe Police arrested 23-year-olds Michael Rocco and Matthew Oye Tuesday at 1 a.m. after they got into a fight outside of a bar on Mill Ave.
During the altercation, which started as a verbal argument but escalated, an adult male was hit and kicked while he was lying on the ground in the fetal postion. Police say that Oye struck the victim with a metal pipe found by a dumpter.
Rocco and Oye tried to run from police when they were spotted, but Tempe police officers chased them on foot.
The victim suffered visible injuries, but refused medical treatment.
Oye and Rocco have been booked at Tempe City Jail and are awaiting a visit with a judge.
Rocco has been charged with assault and criminal damage, for a hood of a vehicle that was damaged during the fight. Oye has been charged with aggravated assault.
Rocco and Oye were recently drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
