DELAND, FL (AP) - A Florida man arguing with his soon-to-be ex-wife got a bloody nose and had to use a taser to stop her from beating him some more, the Sheriff's Office said.
Khadeja Palmore, 48, a nurse at a hospital in Sanford, was arrested on Monday and charged with battery, a sheriff's report said. Palmore is in jail without bail, a booking officer said.
According to the Sheriff's Office charging affidavit, Palmore and her husband, John Palmore, have been married for three years but are separated and are in the process of getting a divorce.
Deputies first got notified of the trouble between the separated couple when John Palmore called deputies at 4:30 a.m. on Monday to report that someone had broken into his home. John Palmore told deputies he believed his soon-to-be ex-wife stole his microwave oven and his clothes, the report said.
Khadeja Palmore returned to the home at 6:53 a.m. to leave her husband's clothes and left, but later returned to get more items and an argument started. The argument turned physical, the report said.
John Palmore said his estranged wife said, "I can do what I want," entered the house and locked the door. As John Palmore entered through a sliding door, he was punched in the nose, deputies said. John Palmore warned his wife he had a taser but she kept coming at him and attacking him so he tasered the woman a couple times to stop her from getting a kitchen knife, the report said.
Khadeja Palmore told deputies she was tasered for no reason. She told deputies she had earlier gotten into the house when John Palmore was not there. Khadeja Palmore said she did not remember hitting her husband but that she threw a flashlight at him to stop him from approaching her with the taser, the report said.
Deputies arriving at the home could hear John Palmore yelling to Khadeja to get out of his house, the report said.
Khadeja Palmore complained of chest pain while being interviewed by deputies and was taken to Florida Hospital DeLand for evaluation. She was medically cleared and taken to jail, the report said.
