Rocky Point, Mexico is a popular destination for Arizonans.  It's Spring Break time, so many students are heading south of the border for some fun in the sun and the sandy beaches.

We're taking a look at how the tourism industry in Rocky Point is making the town safer for Arizona travelers and what you need to know before you go.

To many Arizonans, Rocky Point is an ideal Spring Break destination.  It's closer than San Diego, it's cheaper and a lot less crowded.

Rocky Point is home to a number of restaurants, bars, sandy beaches and waterfront resorts, but it's seen a decrease in visitors in recent years.  Blame it on the recession and fears about drug violence in Mexico, but the Rocky Point tourism office says it's a safe place to visit.

During Spring Break, city and state police will have more bilingual officers on the streets and patrols are being stepped up along the highways and in Rocky Point.

City leaders are also arranging for more roadside assistance for people whose cars break down.

If you've never driven to Rocky Point, it may be daunting for someone who's never been to Mexico.
