PHOENIX - She's a little girl who took on a big project.
8-year-old Lindsey Duran suffers from chronic Guillain-Barre syndrome, where the body's immune system attacks its nerves.
After spending several days at Phoenix Children's Hospital, she noticed the toy chest was lacking. Lindsey decided that she wanted to raise money to help out other kids who are still there.
Together, Lindsey and her 5-year-old brother Nathan make a pretty good team. They want to raise money to buy gifts and games for kids in the hospital at Christmas time -- and they're doing it with collection jars.
Lindsey was admitted to the hospital for 3 days when her rare condition flared up, making it hard for her to even walk. Now feeling better, she and her mom go door-to-door asking for businesses to help out.
"I say my name is Lindsey Duran and I was wondering if you could hold my jar for a while and we'll come collect it in November," she says.
Lindsey's jars are in more than 50 stores, some as far as Colorado. So far, they've raised over $700.
In November, Lindsey and her brother will collect the money, and then the shopping will begin.
In addition to the jars, Lindsey has a big fundraiser planned for October 16. She'll have a lemonade stand located outside of Two Hippies restaurant in Phoenix.
