Finding a Job in 2012: Create a Strategy, Remove Buzzwords from Resume

PHOENIX - Many people are out of work and looking for a job, but if you've been out of the work place for awhile, it might be somewhat intimidating to get back in.

So what do you need to do in 2012 to find a job?

Momentum Staffing's Michael Hayes says you'll need to create a strategy and remove some over used buzzwords from your resume.

Create a Job Strategy: Create your day ALL around looking for a job. (IE, morning, look up jobs online/paper. Look for networking events to attend this week and RSVP. Go through closet and find an interview outfit and press, shine shoes. etc.)

Diversify: Today's job search can be summed up in one word: hustle. Don't just spam employers with resumes. Follow directions on how to apply. Look for company on social media and LinkedIn

Listen: What is going on in the company you want to work for? What do they want in employees? Network and get to know people who know the company/industry you want to be in.

Prepare: Research the company, look up interviewer on LinkedIn. Ask your grandma to survey your Facebook page. Have your resume with you. Doing a phone interview? Be in a quiet room with pen in hand.

Stay Balanced: Get in the right mind set. Don't bring baggage into your interview. Don't say "I will take anything."

Over Used Buzzwords in Resumes:
1. Creative - We are all "creative"...show me HOW you are.
2. Organizational - What do you do to keep your job running smoothly?
3. Effective - HOW? Example.
4. Extensive experience - I can see that in your resume. Just nix it.
5. Track record - Again, give me an example of how your experiences can help my business.
6. Motivated - SHOW, don't tell me.
